Update Week Ending 10/05/2024

Today is Saturday, October 5. The Jewish holiday of Rosh Hashanhah, beginning of the Jewish New Year and
first of the High Holy Days, completed yesterday, part of a ten-day period of penitence and spiritual renewal which ends on Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement on Saturday, October 12 We are still in the festival of Navaratri until October 12, the ninth Hindu festival celebrating the triumph of good over evil. It worships God in the form of the universal mother commonly referred to as Durga, Devi or Shakti, and marks the start of Fall. We are still in National Hispanic Heritage month until October 15. This month celebrates the contributions heritage and culture of Hispanic and Latino Americans. October is the month for recognition of several causes and/groups including LGBT History month, National Bullying Prevention month and National Disability Employment Awareness month.
