Today is Saturday, February 25. Wednesday, March 1 is the first day of Women’s History month. Women’s History month honors the role of women in American history.
We near the end of Black History month. Associated events and resources still remain and many events for March are listed below.
The Black History Month 2023 theme, “Black Resistance“, explores how “African Americans have resisted historic and ongoing oppression, in all forms, especially the racial terrorism of lynching, racial pogroms and police killings,” since the nation’s earliest days.
Black History Month; February was named African American History month because it holds the birthdays of two men who helped eliminate slavery; Frederick Douglass and President Abraham Lincoln.

Events:
There are still events planned for Black History Month in the Rochester area:
1. February 25 (Saturday) & February 26 (Sunday): Black History Month at the Rochester Museum and Science Center from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM. This weekend’s theme is “Black Excellence in STEM” .
The RMSC has programs each weekend during the month in addition to it’s permanent exhibits.
2. Bill Wynne shares the flyers for two (2) events, one February 24 and the other February 25 presented by Rev. Myra Brown and Spiritus Christi church to raise funds to support their work in building the Franklin D. Florence Civil Rights Park. 3. Dr. Frederick Jefferson advises us of the 2nd of a 4th part series program offered Wednesday, March 1 from 12:00 – 1:00 PM by the The Anatomy of Hate Grand Rounds 2023 events titled “Responding to Hate: Practical Ways to Address It”.

5. Barb Egenhofer shares information on a virtual program “Inclusion and Belonging Masterclass” starting March 1 for three consecutive Wednesdays.

a. One of the best experiences I have had in the last few years is being introduced to a Black owned barbershop, “Whitmore’s International Barbershop” by my friend Grequan Carter. The shop is located at 212 Monroe Avenue just 2 blocks west of the Strong National Museum of Play. I receive the best cut, great conversation and a new world of wonderful acquaintances.
