Update Week of 8/14/2022

1. Several of you have asked for the recording of the ERG Special Meeting “Equity is the Foundation of Justice” presented by Jerome Underwood, President and CEO of Action for a Better Community. I will share the recording with you if you send me an email request and agree to read my notes from the meeting and consider participating in one of the recommended action items.

2. We have added a “Recommended Books” list to the website “exploringracism.org” under “Resources”. If you have a book to recommend let us know. I personally would recommend “Your Children Are Very Greatly In Danger” and “Strike the Hammer”. These recently published books present the Rochester history and explain the condition our community is in today.

3. As shared the last 4 weeks, we are now recruiting for the September ERG cohorts. We plan to have 4 cohorts or groups of 10 starting the one year program during September. Is there a current leader or future leader in your company or organization that could benefit from the ERG program? if so, please tell them about the program and send me their contact information.

4. ERG Alumni, Kathi Lynch asks us all, including friends and relatives to take Common Ground Health’s 2022 survey. Common Ground Health conducted a similar survey in 2018 and are repeating it this year with additional questions that try to capture the impact COVID has had on residents in the region and to better understand the health inequities exacerbated by the pandemic.

Registration is now open for the virtual 2022 Speak Life! Health Equity Conference, featuring Harriet Washington, author of Medical Apartheid, Dr. S. Michelle Ogunwole, Denise Smith and more, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 23. Register at commongroundhealth.org/speaklife2022.
